Slow Races – spot the gnome!
Gnomes shifted from contemplative pose to contemplative pose among diners and passersby at Bexhill De la Warr Pavilion on Saturday 5 July. The occasion was Slow Races, a performative piece by artist Claudia Kappenberg, and was part of the venue’s Dear Serge series of cutting edge art, performance and music.
Slow Races was all about slowness and stillness instead of speed and utility and, as well as the Gnomes Race, included a (mobility) Scooter Murmuration, the Bucket Race (a game in which members of the public were challenged to complete a course carrying buckets of water without spilling a drop), and a performance of the Universal Declaration of the Human Right to Uselessness.
